They're Not Coming Back

A distant cry, a cry of pain,
The bellowing and the anguished rain.
I trembled and crumbled deep within,
I know, they are not comin back

All they wished were showers of bliss,
not knowing it's a deep abyss.
As they dived and hived off to their end,
I know, they are not coming back

My lord, I know you always watch and care,
but some faith are broken beyond repair.
Bless them all and bestow them peace,
as they are not comin back...

-This poem is dedicated to all my fellow human beings who were victims at jodhpur temple stampede-

Womenization

Things have taken a u-turn for the Indian woman of the 21st century from being a deprived household entity to acquiring dominant and responsible positions in every industrial sector. However one grey area which constantly demands attention is the constant agony and torment faced by women at domestic level and at work. Not to mention a flurry of laws that have been passed to protect women from such abhorrent and repulsive treatment at their own household, the awareness levels are still quite low.

Various kinds and genres of domestic violence have indeed been recognized in the recently enacted "domestic violence act" including physical, mental , sexual and even financial. However statistics show that even every successful women still undergo a great ordeal and cope with day to day harassment at the hands of their own family members within the secure precincts of their households.

Not only this, the new law not only recognizes husband as a putative perpetrator responsible for the heinous act of violence and harassment of women, it also recognizes other male and female members including brother, son and even a live-in partner who can be responsible for an act of violence towards a woman. Special protection officers (essentially women) are appointed at every police station to record the complaints and take necessary action against the perpetrators and to file a formal complaint with the magistrate concerned. A speedy disposal is also envisaged under the new law.

Although women's protection laws have existed for quite some time now, but so far there is an absence of ostensible justice to women in cases of violence against them as the entire practice is proved futile for the matter in mired into legal complications and protracted trials which reach no culmination. However this new law is a step forward in protecting the pride and self esteem of women which is inexorably assaulted at the very hand of those who are meant to protect them. So next time you are faced with any brutality, aggression or harassment towards your person, contact the nearest police station and record a formal complaint with the concerned protection officer.

There is a also a comprehensive set of guidelines laid down against any kind of unsolicited sexual or lewd advances by co-workers or clients and women can report the matter immediately to their superior officer who are bound to take action within a reasonable time failing to which law imposes a severe and stern responsibility and any callous attitude shall be construed to be endorsing a crime and shall be dealt with a rough hand.

Therefore it is high time that women know and understand their rights and remedies against any hostility towards their person and self-respect. Laws of the country have matured and are quite adequate to buttress a safer and conducive atmosphere around them. Go ahead, take pride in knowing that you are recognized and respected.
